There are only a few days in each cycle when a woman can conceive, so having intercourse on those days is very important when trying to get pregnant. The Clearblue® Advanced Digital Ovulation Test is the first and ONLY test typically able to identify 4 or more fertile days in each cycle. It tracks 2 key fertility hormones to pinpoint your high and peak fertility days, helping you plan ahead and increase your chances of conceiving.

If you have leftover ovulation test sticks after the first LH surge, you can use them with the same test holder to detect fertile days in the next cycle, provided you are not pregnant.

It works differently than other ovulation tests.

The Clearblue® Advanced Digital Ovulation Test works differently from other ovulation tests because it is designed to detect two hormones — estrogen and LH. When it detects a rise in estrogen, it shows high fertility (a flashing smiley face) and will continue to show high fertility on the following days while it searches for your LH surge. When the LH surge is detected, the test displays peak fertility (a solid smiley face).

Every woman’s cycle is unique, and hormone patterns vary. In a study involving 87 women, it was observed that:

Have you seen more than 9 high fertility days?

If you see more than 9 high fertility days, you may want to stop testing for this cycle.

If you started testing on the correct day of your usual cycle length and see 9 or more high fertility days, it is unlikely that you will reach peak fertility during this cycle.

Occasionally, some women have an LH surge that is too low to be detected by the test, or they do not ovulate during the cycle, so they do not see peak fertility. This is not unusual and can occur in about 8% of cycles. If you do not see peak fertility for 3 consecutive cycles, we recommend discussing this with your doctor.

Test once a day

Test only once a day until you see High Fertility — to get reliable high fertility results, use urine collected after your longest sleep.
Once you see High Fertility, you can test more frequently, but avoid excessive fluid intake before testing.

Do not remove the batteries.

If you remove the batteries from the holder, you will no longer be able to use it. If you have any questions, please read the full instruction leaflet.

How to Use the Clearblue Advanced DIGITAL Ovulation Test

Before Use

Always read the instructions on the packaging and the information leaflet carefully before use.

Always test your first urine after your longest sleep.

Before starting, you need to know your usual cycle length to ensure you test at the right time to identify your most fertile days.

The first day of your period (the first full day of bleeding) is considered day 1. Your cycle length is the total number of days from day 1 up to and including the day before your next period starts.

Once you know your cycle length, use the table below to find out when to start testing:

Get Ready to Use

Remove the test stick from the foil wrapper.

Remove the cap from the test stick.

– Align the purple arrow on the ovulation test stick with the arrow on the test holder.

Insert the test stick until it clicks into place.

The ovulation test will turn on automatically once the test stick is properly inserted.

If you are using the test holder for the first time, the “new cycle” symbols will flash briefly.

Wait for the “Ready to test” symbol to appear, then test immediately.

 

Performing the Test

Hold the absorbent tip pointing downwards in your urine stream for 3 seconds.

Or collect a urine sample in a clean, dry container. Dip the test stick into the urine for 15 seconds.

After one minute, the “Ready to test” symbol will start flashing, indicating the test is working.

 

Wait 5 minutes

 

Within 1 minute, you will see the test working as the “Ready to test” symbol starts flashing.

Keep the test stick pointing downwards or place the sample on a flat surface.

Never hold the test with the absorbent tip pointing upwards at any time during the test.
Your result will be displayed on the screen after 5 minutes.

RESULTS

Low fertility – clear circle.

– A clear circle indicates low fertility. Intercourse today is for fun only, as it is unlikely – but not impossible – that you will become pregnant. The result will be displayed in 8 minutes.

– Do not test again today. Try again tomorrow using the first urine after your longest sleep.

– Note: the test looks for a rise in estrogen, which indicates that you have reached high fertility. To ensure reliable high fertility results, it is important to test only once per day.

High fertility – flashing smiley face.

– When the test first detects a rise in estrogen levels, high fertility (flashing smiley face) will be displayed. The result will be shown for 8 minutes.

– On the following days, the test will continue to show high fertility until your LH surge is detected. Continue testing daily to identify your LH surge.

– After the first day of high fertility is shown, you may test more than once per day if you wish, but avoid excessive fluid intake before testing.

If you see more than 9 high fertility days, please refer to FAQs 2 and 4.

Peak fertility – a static smiley face is continuously displayed for 48 hours after it appears.

You cannot perform another test while peak fertility is displayed, as the holder will not be able to read it.

AFTER THE TEST

– Dispose of the test stick immediately and discard it with your regular household waste.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

My peak fertility (static smiley face) isn’t disappearing. Is the test faulty?

  • When the LH surge is first detected, a static smiley face will be displayed on the test and remain visible for 48 hours, indicating 2 peak fertility days.
  • You cannot perform another test while peak fertility is displayed on the screen, as the holder will not be able to read it. If needed, you can save the remaining test sticks and use them in a future cycle.
  • Do not remove the batteries to try to reset the holder; doing so will break the holder and you will no longer be able to use it.

 

I have done all the tests as instructed, but I did not see high fertility. What should I do?

  • This package contains enough test sticks for most women with regular cycles to detect their high and peak fertility. If your cycle is long or irregular, you may need to perform more tests. You should use the same holder with test sticks from a new package.
  • Some women may not see high fertility days but only peak fertility days. This may happen because estrogen levels are not high enough to be detected by the test, or testing was started too late. You can still rely on the peak fertility results, and having intercourse on these days increases your chances of becoming pregnant.

 

I followed the tests according to the instructions but did not see exactly 4 fertile days. What does this mean?

  • Hormone levels and cycle length vary between women and from cycle to cycle in the same woman. The number of fertile days shown in each cycle will depend on you, and some women will have more or fewer than 4. In a study involving 87 women, we observed the following:

It’s been a long time since I saw high fertility results — is it really not possible that I’ve been fertile all this time?

  • When the test detects a rise in estrogen levels, high fertility (flashing smiley face) is displayed and high fertility will continue to be shown on subsequent days until your LH surge is detected.
  • If you start testing too early or too late (after the LH surge), you may see many high fertility days.
  • If you started testing on the correct day of your usual cycle length and see 9 or more high fertility days, it is unlikely that you will reach peak fertility during this cycle. You may want to stop testing this cycle and save the remaining tests for the next cycle.
  • Occasionally, some women’s LH surge is too low to be detected, or they do not ovulate during the cycle. In such cases, they may see many high fertility days but no peak fertility. This is not unusual and can happen in about 8% of cycles.
  • If you do not see peak fertility for 3 consecutive cycles, we recommend discussing this with your doctor.
  • Remember that your results are personal to you, and you may see more than 2 high fertility days – see Table 3 in Quarter 3.

 

Can I test more than once a day if I want to?

To ensure reliable high fertility results, it is important to test your urine once a day after your longest sleep.

 

When the first high fertility day is shown and the test starts looking for the LH surge, you may test more frequently if you wish, but avoid excessive fluid intake before testing.

 

Does the test start adapting to my unique cycle from the very first day of testing?

Yes, the test shows your individual hormone levels, and on the first day you test each cycle, the estrogen level will be established. The test cannot show high fertility on the first test day because it needs to determine the baseline level. Subsequent tests use this baseline, and when a significant rise in estrogen is detected, high fertility will be displayed. The test will then show high fertility until it detects the LH surge, at which point peak fertility will be displayed. If the LH surge is detected on the first test day, peak fertility will be shown immediately.

 

Can any medications or health conditions affect the result?

Always read the manufacturer’s instructions regarding any medications you are taking before performing the test.

Certain health conditions and medications may cause misleading results, for example:

  • You are pregnant.
  • You have recently become pregnant.
  • You have reached menopause.
  • You have impaired liver or kidney function.
  • You have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
  • If you are taking fertility medications containing luteinizing hormone (LH) or human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG).
  • If you are taking antibiotics that contain tetracyclines.
  • Some fertility treatments, such as clomiphene citrate, may cause misleading high fertility results. Peak fertility results should not be affected.

 

If you have recently become pregnant, you should wait until you have had 2 natural menstrual cycles and record their length before using the Clearblue® Advanced Digital Ovulation Test. Consult your doctor before planning pregnancy if you are taking any medications or have any health issues.

If you have a medically diagnosed fertility problem, you should ask your doctor whether the Clearblue® Advanced Digital is suitable for you.

 

What should I do if I missed testing with the first urine after my longest sleep?

You should test as soon as possible, but avoid drinking large amounts of fluid beforehand. If you do not use the first urine after your longest sleep, you may see unexpected high fertility results, so it is important to remember to use the first urine after your longest sleep.
